Founded in 1994 by Luis Barbán and Hervé Berteaux, the Witiza ensemble has developed an original interpretation of medieval music and Gregorian chant. The singularity of their work lies in the importance they attach to Gregorian modality and ornamentation, Eastern influences in instrumental and modal practice, the diversity of timbres in polyphony, and the central notion of arrangement.
